The status of our group is great. As far as our progress is concerned, we are right where we are supposed to be. We have our anchor text as well as the sins/virtues selected. Our group has decided to start a wiki so we could all communicate with each other and it is working out good; I would encourage other groups to try a wiki as well.
The status of our groups is good. We have chosen an anchor text and all agree that it will make for a great unit plan. We have kept in contact through email and all seem ready and willing to contribute whatever is needed of us to make our project successful.
Our Humanities group is awesome! We have already chosen and read the anchor text. We have an overall idea of the lesson we want to present. Also we have selected the sins/virtues for the lesson.
Our group seems to be working together very well, we have selected our anchor text and most have read it or are currently doing so. We have also selected some other sources such as the film based on our book. Communication has been mostly through e-mail and I feel that we are all on the same page.
At this point, our group has gotten our contact information straightened out and are in the initial stages of organizing our thoughts regarding the project. We are attempting to feel out our schedules and what we feel would be the best way to go about getting together and organizing our work load regarding the project. I feel that in regards to Dr. Scherff and Dr. Lovorn's involvement, I would like to see maybe an example or two of what we are looking at doing as far as the unit we are supposed to be creating.
We are pretty much rockin' it on this one. We've all read our book and have met. Each of us is working on a lesson plan that we will fit together with each other when they are all completed. We are on track so far.
My group has made a wiki to keep in contact. We have selected and started to read and gather ideas for our lesson plans that represent aspects from both contents. I'd say everything is going according to schedule. I would like to have time to pitch ideas as a whole group or individually by content areas to Dr. Lovorn or Dr. Scherff sometime in November. I feel like this meeting would assure that we are moving in the right direction and keep us motivated.
Last week our group flew to Tehran,Iran to interview Iranians regarding their thoughts on the Iranian Revolution in 1979. It was an increible trip and our group really bonded over spending a week in a foreign country. :)
well the truth is, we never went to Iran. But our group is using the book Persepolis to discuss the Iranian Revolution. We think this topic will be very interesting to students and the book will make the event come alive. Our group speaks regularly through emails and we have plans to meet in the near future. The bulk of our work should come together over the course of our next few meetings.
I'm in a group with Ellis and I agree with him 100%. Our group has been very good about getting started on this project. In fact, this is one of the few projects that I'm not stressing over!
To date, our group has already selected a topic, an anchor text, and additional fictional book to help design our unit plan around. Over a month ago, one of my group members created a Wiki for us to post ideas and comments about the project. We met once already last week, and have another meeting scheduled this month. Basically, we have a general overview of what we would like our unit to become. The details involved will be discussed at our next meeting so that we may move further into the project.
As of right now, I cannot think of anything we need assistance with. But I’m sure more things will come up once we get further into things!
I think you and Dr. Schreff did a wonder job of explaining the assignment. As of right now I think our group is coming along well. We meet and dicussed the details of our project. We have come up with a theme and we are moving forward with great progress.
I have major concerns thus far, my group has begun without me. Jaci, or anyone in the group with her, I am in your group so if you could please contact me with the pertinent info, that would be great as I am supposed to be in your group. Thank you.
Our group is doing great! We have our book, Inncantation, and have met and put together an outline of what we are going to do as a unit. I am really pumped at the fact that the english and social studies is coming together so well and making a very stong unit.
As of right now, i feel that our group is about where everyone else is, or atleast from what i can tell from talking to other students. We have decided on our main text and also have decided on our sins/virtues. One thing that has helped us do this so easy is creating a wiki. This has allowed all of us to communicate successfully and not stress about finding free time for everyone to meet in person.
Our group is doing good. I'm in the group with Jaci and, as she said, we have already met once. We are planning on meeting again soon. Our group has picked two anchor texts, a sin, and a virtue. We are all trying to find different activities and information to add to our unit so that we can start working on our lesson plans. It's hard to find a time for everyone to meet, but I think we are headed in the right direction.
In response to S Stetson: Wow, you really had me going there for a second! (Kidding) However, I must say that I am certainly impressed with your demonstration of wit within our blog assignment. I believe it and your vivid imagination will serve your Social Science classroom quite well. I think we should engage in a bit of witty banter, so that I can pick up a few pointers myself.
Our group has had a tough time getting started. We have all been very busy with our placements and jobs that we have a had a tough time getting together. I have discussed our particular book with the people in our group, and there has been small discussion in which direction we want to go.
Our group has chosen a book and tossed around some very preliminary ideas for our lesson plan. In addition to that, we have organized a meeting time for us to meet and really start to put pen to paper.
Our group is pretty much on the same lines as Jesse's. At this point we have a general direction we are heading in, but may require alittle assistance when we actually get into the lesson writing portion of the unit. I'm sure no matter what comes up, we will be able to work through it as a group.
Our group is doing really good. We have choosen an anchor text and selected or sin/virtue. We have meet and begun discussing ideas of what we want to include in our unit. I think it is going to be really good.
It has been difficult to meet as of late because of our schedules, but I have had time to think about what books I want to use and ways to bring the two content areas together. With the talent and brainage of those involved in the group, I am quite sure we will come to middle ground on this because we know each other so well personally, we are quite aware of our strengths, which often transcend the two areas. Sometimes we are good in both, it is sort of an identity crisis figuring out which one we really are better teaching at!
I am in a group with Jaci and Courtney, and as they have both said, we are off to a good start. So far we have our two anchor texts, the sin and virtue, and know a basic idea of what we want our month to look like (one collaborative lesson a week). We met once already and will be meeting again next week to discuss what we have been working on. Right now the group is posting other material we can use for the unit on our wiki page, and when we meet next week we’ll discuss what to use and when. So far our group has been pretty on top of things.
At this point, out group has not had much time to collaborate on this project. With all of our classes, clinical, and work schedules, it was difficult to find a time to meet. We have managed to meet once and during this meeting we discussed book choice and possible sins and virtues that relate to said book. Because we did not meet earlier, I feel that our group may fall behind on the project. However, once we had our meeting I found that everyone was eager to 'get the ball rolling'. We have already decided on a future meeting time/date as well as a deadline to finish our book (hopefully with notes on selected sins and virtues and their relations to our content area). A week ago I would have been worried about our group project, but now I am confident that our group will be awesome!
At this point in or project, we have completed reading our text, considered different themes and topics to include in our unit as well as different supplemental materials. Although we have yet to finalize anything, we have begun the process of researching and becoming more aware of what the fictional piece discusses and how we can relate that to our students. As far as assistance concerns, perhaps once we come to finalize our lessons, there maybe a few questions to be answered. At this time however, we have none. Overall, we are all really excited about the book and we are eager to create a unit that can be used in our future teaching experiences.
My Humanities Unit group has not yet had much time to get together and discuss the topic. We have decided to redirect the path of our project. At first we chose a book in which was very difficult to relate both history and english. Now; however, the book we have chosen relates very well to both subjects. At this point I do not feel as though we need any help; however, as the project progresses I am sure we will have many questions.
My group has met a couple of times. We are now thinking about using two books on the list rather than one. We have come up with some good points for our unit. I think we are getting off to a great start. I am really excited to see what everyone's project turns out to be in December.
