487/587 BLOG ASSIGNMENT QUESTION 3

What has been the most challenging aspect of this project thus far?

  1. At the point our group is at now there have been no challenging aspects. We are able to communicate effectively outside of class due to our wiki. Each member is aware of our anchor text and of the sins/virtues we are going to use. We are all getting along good and eager to complete our project.

  2. There have been no challenging aspects in my group project so far. We have communicated via email and all know the anchor text we are supposed to be reading. Although we have not met in person yet, everyone seems extremely willing to do their part. I don't think we will have any problems completing this project successfully!

  3. I do not think that there has been any challenges up to this point. We all have been doing our part and working together to plan the lesson. We have been able to plan meetings fairly easily, so our group is going great.

  4. The only problem we have had is just aligning our schedules to figure out when we can meet as a group. But we have been able to circumvent that by continued e-mail threads and everyone seems willing to do their part in the project and so when we can get together I think it will go quite smoothly.

  5. Most challenging....hmmm...honestly, we haven't hit a snag yet (knock on wood). I'm sure once we start meshing our lessons, we will have some minor issues that need to be worked out, but overall it's all good right now. The biggest challenge for most of us, in my opinion, is realizing that this isn't as big of a deal as we are making it out to be. I think we are finally starting to get it. I know that a lot of us were freaking out, but have since calmed down and gotten to work. Once you have a plan, the rest is a piece of cake. [end motivational bit]

  6. The most difficult part thus far is finding times to meet face to face with everyone. The wiki has helped out greatly, but we still need face to face time.

  7. Life is filled with mundane chores that makes attention to academic projects increasingly more difficult. The busy schedules of each of our group members make coordinating an ideal meeting time a near impossibility. Fortuanately e-mail correspondence allows some of our ideas to be expressed. I think the biggest difficulty lies in coordinating with the english language students who are not in my history classes.

My hope is we can set up an afternoon to meet in the next few weeks and take this project from a selected text/basic idea stage to scaffolding the salient components of the unit plan.

  8. I worried that it'd be hard for 5 different people to work out a time to meet within their busy schedules but we made it work with very little difficulty.

  9. The most challenging aspect of this assignment so far has been trying to find times for all six group members to meet. Specifically, the fact that many of us do not have any classes together limits our ability to discuss the project on a more regular basis. In meetings, it is easy to forget all of the little things you have been considering for the project or the things that come up in our classes that may be useful to incorporate into the project. To be 100% honest, the fact that I had only met one person from my group prior to our meeting might be my biggest challenge personally. It is just challenging to do a project outside of the classroom with such a large group of people who you cannot see more often. Maybe this type of project would be easier if the whole group had the class together, and could spend a little more time working on it together in class. However, my group members have been fabulous, and I think that once we get the chance to work on the project a little more, it is going to turn out great!

  10. I just read you post Jaci, and it seems that the most difficult thing for me is to meet my group as well. By the way, I am in your group so if there has been any discussions or meetings, could you please forward me the info so I can stay on top of things. For anyone else in the group with Jaci Neely, please contact me as soon as possible. Thank you.
That being said, I have not had any other difficulties as I have not met my group.

  11. One of the most challenging parts of the project consist of bring the entire theme together. Having two different content area is great, but it comes with it own set of challenges because of trying to incorporate the significant them of each content area. I must say that our group is working hard through those challenge and the project is coming along nicely.

  12. The most difficult thing for me with this lesson is trying to read the material and think how would the english teacher do this unit. I can quickly see the ties to social studies but I have to work really hard to see the english side.

  13. The most difficult thing at first was trying to figure out how we were all going to communicate and meet to do this project. This was solved with the idea of a WIKI. Other than that everything has ran smoothly so far. I find myself wondering how an English teacher will teach this lesson because my point of view is coming from the Social Science side. I am trying to take both sides into consideration so things can run smoothly.

  14. The most difficult thing I have encountered is figuring out who is in my group. It seems some people were left off of the e-mail was sent out that listed the members of each group. We are still trying to get everything straight in our group, even though we have already met once. It is hard to meet with the ELA students to figure out what they have been told about the groups and how it differs from what we have been told. It has also been difficult finding a time to meet with everyone having different schedules.

  15. Wow! Where do I begin? Our group has faced several challenges from day numero uno. From me being under the weather the day we chose groups to the lack of a consensus available time, our collaborative project has been an uphill battle. We did not know the composition of our group until the day Dr. Lovorn e-mailed us the finalized list. We could not find the contact information for some of our group members, as one has duplicate names in the system and one is a graduate student. Our first meeting was canceled due to a death in my family and out of town trips for others. You name it, and we have almost definitely experienced it. However, we are all keeping a positive attitude about it and are increasingly excited about finally getting started. Cheers to that!

  16. in response to cody: We have definitely had a tough time trying to meet becuase our schedules are so jam packed right now. We should try a wiki to see if that helps.

  17. We initially had trouble organizing as a group until we formed a wiki where we can post all new updates and ideas regarding the project. Now the only challenge is agreeing on a suitable time for everyone so we can meet as a group.

  18. Stephanie pretty much summed up our entire group experience. It was a rocky start, but with our first meeting under our belt and our anchor text set, it should be all down hill from here.

  19. I think that the biggest challenge so far is just trying to schedule time to meet with everyone in the groups. It seems that many people have very different schedules and due to clinical placement hours as well as class and work it is hard to find time to meet. Other than the time to meet I feel that this lesson is straight forward and gives the us a lot of freedom which I like.

  20. I don't really think we have had any real difficulties during this project but we have had some problems finding time that we can all get together as a group to meet and collaborate on this project. We are all so busy with our placements and doing them at different times it makes it hard to find a common time to meet.

  21. Like my other group members said, I think the hardest part was figuring out a way to make the project work and find times to meet or discuss. But after we met and discussed the book and ideas for lessons we all realized the project was not as hard as we made it out to be.

  22. I think the most challenging part of this project has been finding time to meet as a group. It was relatively easy for all the social studies people to communicate and all the language arts people to communicate separately, but because of our diverse class schedule it was difficult for all of us to meet at the same time. Once we found a good meeting time for us all, everything has run much smoother. Since we have met, our group has not come across any other bumps and is excited to collaborate on such an interesting and fun assignment!

  23. The most challenging aspect so far (like Jessica said) is finding time to meet and read the anchor text. Despite somewhat similar class schedules, other group members have work and all of our in school hours which seem to be at different times it feels like. We do have one day a week where all group members can meet for a few hours, and it has helped planning meetings several weeks in advance so we can make sure and block out time.

  24. The challenge has been setting time aside recently in the midst of our placements to meet and start the process. I am sure that my group is talented enough and schedule savvy enough at this point to now be able to figure what to do, so we can get this project going.

  25. The most challenging aspect of this unit has been finding the time to gather as a group to organize our thoughts and ideas. Although my group in particular has met on two different occasions, it has been difficult to find a particular time that works with everyone's demanding schedules. One thing we have been doing in an attempt to work while not physically meeting is through the use of our “sins and virtues” wiki site. Though frustrating and difficult at times, this experience is helpful in that it more accurately demonstrates potential difficulties we as teacher will face once in the field.

  26. Up until this point there has not been many challenges. The only challenge that I can think of is trying to find the time in all of our schedules to meet and discuss the project. We are all so busy. We have also had to change our topic to one that was relates more to both History and English.

  27. I agree with the only real problem being conflicting schedules. The hardest thing is finding time to all sit down together and dicuss our ideas.
